Hi, My name is Marg, and I'm a Clinical Psychologist and EMDR Practitioner based in Bayside, Melbourne. I support adults affected by a scope of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma and low self-worth.
I began my career working mainly with young people in country Victoria, before moving to suporting adults affected by severe mental illness in the public hospital system and in private practice. Through my experiences, I developed a passion for helping people to understand and heal the stories that their minds hold about their sense of safety, security, worth, control and belonging. So, I mustered up some courage and created The Curious Psych in 2024, to guide people using compassionate and evidence-based therapies shown to heal old wounds that no longer serve them.
"We have learned that trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on the mind, brain and body"
- Dr. Bessel A. van der Kolk, Psychiatrist & Author of 'The Body Keeps the Score'.
People are far more complex and dynamic than the labels we sometimes give them. We are all capable of change, if we want it. The research tells us that change is most likely to occur when a person feels connected, cared for and understood in therapy. Developing great rapport with a personable, good-natured therapist who approaches each client with curiosity and compassion is key to this healing work.
'Whenever I notice something about myself I don't like, or whenever something goes wrong in my life, I silently repeat the following phrases: This is a moment of suffering. Suffering is part of life. May I be kind to myself in this moment. May I give myself the compassion I need'
- Dr. Kristin Neff, Self-compassion researcher
I understand that authenticity, meaningful connection, a clear sense of Self and a curious mindset are important ingredients when creating a good life. The mind and body have the wisdom and tools to heal, sometimes we just need a little guidance. If you're visiting this site, then you're working on it.
